Small Ore. non-profits need to check IRS tax status
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service says more than 100 Oregon nonprofit organizations are in danger of losing their tax-exempt status. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reported that a list published online by the IRS shows many of the organizations are no longer in existence. But some still operate and may need to take advantage of a one-time relief filing. The list included 59 organizations in Albany, 24 in Lebanon, four in Sweet Home and 52 in Corvallis. Some of the nonprofits on the IRS list include the Sweet Home Community Singing Christmas Tree and the Linn Sheriff's Posse. Tena Fitzmorris, a tax preparer in Halsey, told the Corvallis newspaper that nonprofits should check their status with the IRS. She said some may have overlooked IRS warnings in the mail during turnover in staff. --- Information from: Gazette-Times,
