FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) - The new $56 million Three Rivers Casino opened to the public Monday, despite a power outage three hours before the opening and 50-mile an hour winds.

More than 350 people showed up for the brief opening ceremony before the doors were opened. Within 15 minutes, officials say the gaming floor was full and the five restaurants were packed.

Reservations for rooms in the 93-room 'boutique' hotel have been booked for several weeks.

It was enough to make Chief David Brainard of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians optimistic.

Brainard says they hope that it means self sufficiency for the Tribe.

A pair of benefit concerts have been sold out for this weekend.
