Protestors block entry to Southern Oregon logging site
- GRANTS PASS, Ore. - Protestors used a log this morning to block a bridge to the Mike's Gulch timber sale in Southern Oregon.

A protestor and the head of the logging company say the 40-foot log was lashed perpendicular to the bridge over the Illinois River.

A protestor dangled on one edge of the log on a platform about 40 feet above the river.

The logging company for the job says federal officers were trying to figure out how to get the log off the bridge and the protestor down safely.

The protestor identified himself as 29-year-old Laurel Sutherlin of the Applegate Valley via a phone call to the Associated Press.

Sutherlin has been involved in previous protests of timber sales in Southern Oregon.

The Mike's Gulch logging began yesterday. It's in a roadless area that was burned by the 2002 Biscuit fire.
