LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) - Weyerhaeuser Co. says it will shut down its Longview lumber mill from Nov. 16 through Thanksgiving because of slow market conditions. Company spokesman Anthony Chavez tells The Daily News of Longview that Weyerhaeuser often shuts down for a week or two during the holidays to cut inventory when lumber demand is slow. He said Thursday the mill's 215 employees can file for unemployment. The company last curtailed the Longview mill for three weeks around Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
