UNDATED - The government has launched a full-blown effort to ban drop-side cribs for good.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) plans to approve a new rule by the end of the year that would prohibit the sale of such cribs.

A New York senator wants to go a step further and wants to ban the re-sale of the cribs and also remove them from day-care centers and hotels.

At least 32 babies have died in the cribs in past decade.

In just the past 5 years, 7 million of the cribs have been recalled.
