Two of Portland’s best-known entities — the Portland Timbers and food carts — are coming together under a new initiative.
The Timbers have unveiled a plan that will spotlight some of the city’s 700-plus food carts.
The Portland Timbers Food Cart Alliance program will give certain carts Jeld-Wen Field-neighborhood spaces to peddle their meals and treats. The carts will serve their items on days when Timbers play home matches.
The strategy aims to “connect the Timbers and our fans to some of the amazing chefs and food cart operators that help make Soccer City USA also famous for its food cart scene,” said Mike Golub, the Timbers COO, in a statement received by the Portland Business Journal.
The project will promote the carts through social media and other means. Cart operators will be encouraged to create Timbers-themed concoctions. Participants will also offer discounts to Timbers’ Axe Society members.
A different cart will be featured at each match starting in August. Online fan polls will determine which carts will be spotlighted.
