Obama visits bookstore on 'Small Business Saturday'

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - President Barack Obama made a quick trip to a Virginia bookstore for some Christmas shopping.
The president took his daughters, Sasha and Malia, to One More Page Books in Arlington, Va., on Saturday afternoon.
The White House says Obama was promoting an effort called "small business Saturday" to encourage shoppers to patronize mom-and-pop businesses after Thanksgiving.
At the store, Obama held up his BlackBerry, apparently looking up a book title as he spoke with shop owner Eileen McGervey. He said "preparation" was the key to his shopping.
Obama brushed off a reporter's question about the looming "fiscal cliff," saying "we're doing Christmas shopping."
The White House says Obama bought 15 children's books that will be given as Christmas gifts to family members.

Guess that about says it all . . . .
They didnt build that business. Somebody else did it !
@Rob C 503 Somebody else paid to teach our population how to read, so they will want to buy books, thereby allowing this person to build their business.  And somebody else paid to have roads and bridges built so these educated people could drive their cars and bicycles to this store to buy the books, thereby allowing this person to build their business.
Â
They may have built their business, but they didn't do it all by themselves.Â
@Kennyboy .......comrade Kenny. You have bought this BS hook line and sinker and you will be paying for this idealistic foolishness of a long time. And your children even longer. And somebody paid for your schooling. Are they also responsible for your stupidity?
@Kennyboy ......then congratulations. You then of all people should know the the ridiculousness of Obamas statement. Just curious.......as a business owner you pay for infrastructure.....it's development, improvement and maintenance. Sorry about the typo.
@Rob C 503  @Kennyboy Oooooh, Rob. Not sure what it means to "poder", but any lawyer will tell you that you NEVER, EVER ask a question publicly unless you are sure you know what the answer will be.
Â
The fact is, my wife and I opened a retail furniture store from scratch in 2003 in a 10,000 sq. ft. building. Our start-up capital consisted of only a home equity loan and our own personal credit cards. We were profitable for the first 5 years, increasing revenue year by year. Then the recession happened. We borrowed, but stayed afloat and didn't lay off any employees. This year and last year we are again profitable, and in fact we expanded our space to over 21,000 sq. ft.Â
Â
Two things:Â
1) I am fully aware that my wife and I built the business from scratch, but would not have been able to do so without things like having the internet and TV and mail for advertising, having good roads nearby, phone lines, dependable power, and having good schools to educate our employees and customers. You know what? I DIDN'T BUILD THOSE!
2) Obama NEVER said to small business owners that they didn't build their small business. If you listen to that speech, he is clearly stating that the small business owner didn't build the infrastructure that allowed their small business to thrive. It was only when FOX news edited his speech and took that one sentence out of context that they made it like that was what he said.
@Kennyboy ......and just something else to poder kennyboy. How many businesses have you started? Haw many businesses have you managed? How much of your own capital have you fronted for an enterprise?
@Rob C 503  @Kennyboy Oh foolish, foolish me to think that education and infrastructure is idealistic and could in any way affect growth and the economy. You're so smart, Rob. Thank you for allowing me to see the errors of my logic.  <by the way...I'm sure you're smart enough to know that I am being sarcastic about you being smart.>
Wow, you can almost see the puppet strings....
