Oracle will expand in Hillsboro, create 130 jobs

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Technology company Oracle said Tuesday it will use $1.4 million in loans from the state of Oregon to expand its Hillsboro facility, adding 130 jobs and keeping others from going overseas.
Oracle will get the loans in exchange for creating the full-time positions and retaining 300 slots over the next two years, Gov. John Kitzhaber's office said.
Oracle received a $750,000 forgivable loan from the Strategic Reserve Fund and a $649,000 forgivable loan from the Business Expansion Program.
The company will not have to repay the state if it fulfills the requirements to add and retain jobs in Oregon within the next two years.
The company will move production of data-center servers and storage systems from Mexico to Hillsboro, said Luke Kowalski, an Oracle vice president.
"We'll be able to meet customer demand while bringing new technology jobs to the state of Oregon," Kowalski said.
Kitzhaber, who visited the Hillsboro facility on Tuesday, praised the company's decision.
"This is further proof of Oregon's competitiveness in the global economy," the governor said, "and a recognition that Oregon workers are second to none in their skills and training."
Oracle has five facilities in Oregon.

Medical benefits - obamacare is here to help
Oracle is a $37 BILLION dollar company and comrade Kitzhaber
felt compelled to GIVE them $1.4M of our money.
Spread that help around Main Street not Wall Street.
So Oregon is such an ugly business environment that we have to wealthy companies and pay them hang a $11k per job pork chop out for them to come to Oregon....pretty sad.
It's probably worth pointing out that when HP opened up their factory in Corvallis, creating "JOBS" they were actually temporary or contract jobs--we didn't get to use the facility gym, Pizza Hut or go to the company picnic, and had radically lesser benefits--and the vast majority of the regular employees were hired out of and brought up from Palo Alto, California, along with Carly the Destroyer herself.
ASSUME for the sake of argument that Oracle only hires employees from the Oregon taxpayer base, and not out of their headquarters in Redwood Shores, California?
Do you honestly think that the 130 technical professionals who will be working at Oracle would have otherwise been "sucking you dry for years on unemployment?"Â Â They're computer geeks, not union employees.

@Dr. Rawdog @Playanekes So to get back our $11k/per job the average pay for those 130 new employees will have to be over $122k . Just not sure buying tax payers is really a win/win but maybe I am just a little short sited.
Why is Kitzhaber's mug in the photo again when he didn't make the decision for Oracle?
Face time, I guess. Otherwise he might have let Mr. Kowalksi and Oracle speak for themselves.
""""""Oracle received a $750,000 forgivable loan from the Strategic Reserve Fund and a $649,000 forgivable loan from the Business Expansion Program."""""""
It'd be nice if just once the state would be honest with the citizens.......
C'mon.... forgivable loan???? there is not a snowballs chance in hell thats an actual loan
Politicians might just get a bit more respect if they were honest and said.  We are paying a 1.4 million dollars to a company to stay in our state.
First you people whine that jobs are overseas then you cry when they bring them back to Oregon and create jobs here for people. Not just crap jobs either GOOD FULL TIME JOBS. You just cant be happy with anything. Just shut up already. Would you rather those 130 people suck you dry for years on unemployment and Food Stamps? How about housing? Sheshh. Creating 130 more jobs for Oregon is a GOOD thing not a bad thing.
Unless you know the circumstances as to why they are loaning them money then really you have NO IDEA what is going on. I love all you armchair accountants.
@Newsin What's he flipping out about? Somebody's complaining about jobs?
Server equipment costs enough apparently their customers have finally noticed that you get what you pay for.
Oregon taking jobs from mexico. English will be the second or third language, but cinco de mayo will be a paid holiday
If you get like a 50 percent debt reduction on a credit card debt you get taxed for discount because the irs considers it income
It isn't really a loan if you don't have to pay it back,is it? Ahhhhhh yes ,the magic of spending other people's money !
@angry1Â got any money I can spend?
@Bert @angry1 Only if we agree to call it a loan,OK ?
A forgivable loan ? Â Is that like when a bear does his business in the woods and nobody steps in it ?
So am I to take that Oregon is such a poor state to expand business in that the state has to bribe a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR business with a *wink, wink* loan to get them to expand here????

@Dr. Rawdog @kramr "Business friendly" means not dictating laws, taxing the crap out of them and regulating away their ability to make a profit--which is what liberals do-- not giving them millions of taxpayer dollars.
"It creates jobs."  So what they're saying is that they're going to take money from working people in Clackamas, Morrow, Benton, Linn, Lane and all the other counties to create 130 jobs in Hillsboro. Which will benefit Hillsboro, and its land developers, corporate shopping centers and politicians.
It's sort of like redistributing the wealth, isn't it?
@Dr. Rawdog I'm a conservative, but, I haven't heard any conservatives talking about Oracle so you're speaking Liar-Ese again. Liar.
It's funny watching you say that since profits will benefit Hillsboro AND the State of Oregon, it's not redistributing the wealth. Nobody in Lane County is ever going to see that wealth. Thank you for proving my point.
@Dr. Rawdog @kramr    """""""" Then when the state negotiates an incentive for business expansion within the state, """""""
Ever stop  to consider WHY the state has to bribe the company to stay here?????? could it be that the state is NOT that business friendly???
My post is nothing but consistent...... If Oregon has to bribe a company with north of THIRTY BILLIONS DOLLARS in the bank to freakin stay in Oregon how bad must the business climate be  here????
"""""Technology company Oracle said Tuesday it will use $1.4 million in loans from the state of Oregon to expand its Hillsboro facility, adding 130 jobs and keeping others from going overseas."""""""
WTF is the state of Oregon loaning money to Oracle......
Larry could fart 1.4million dollars, thats chump change to him

@Dr. Rawdog @kramr Smart states lower taxes like Texas and attract business at all levels not just the ones that don't need the help...
@Dr. Rawdog @kramrÂ
Economic incentive......
Its what states do that have a poor business climate to do to keep business in the state
