PORTLAND, Ore. -- There’s a new kind of bicyclist roaming around Portland streets this spring.
If you haven’t seen one, you likely will soon. In fact, their one goal is to capture your attention.
“It’s about having something different,” said Tracie Benjamin. “It’s unique and memorable and this is just a different way to reach people.”
Benjamin is owner of PDX Pedal Promotions, a bicycle-powered advertising agency. Employees will ride around town towing banners that advertise services or companies.
“Not only do we ride around, we stop at corners, we stop at Pioneer Square and we’ll engage with people and hand stuff out,” said Benjamin.
Employees of Benjamin are called ‘pedalers.’ They’re encouraged to interact with consumers and tell them about whatever they’re advertising. One such pedaler is Trina Lebrasseur.
“I’m such a people person,” she said. “I love interacting with people.”
It also doesn’t feel like a job to Lebrasseur.
“I don’t feel like I’m punching in, punching out at the end of the day,” she said.
Benjamin started the business in early March and says she got the idea after seeing ads on the side of delivery trucks.
