PORTLAND, Ore. – With a spacious office in Southeast Portland, Jason Bolt can already see success through his tinted shades.

Bolt, the founder and CEO of sunglasses company Society43, said he came up with the idea in his apartment at the University of Oregon in 2010.

“I wear my Oregon ones all the time,” said Bolt.

Bolt’s first batch of Oregon Ducks-themed sunglasses quickly sold to a quarter of the student population.

“It was such a success at Oregon, that I knew we could replicate it at basically every university, pro leagues, looking way down the line, and it’s something fans want,” Bolt said.

The sunglasses cost between $20 and $30. Society43 just signed a deal with the National Basketball Association, and has already been selling to universities across the country.

“We’re working closely with the Trail Blazers,” Bolt said. “Each player is getting a pair with his name and number on them.”

Bolt says he’s been in talks with other professional sports leagues. Bolt has 16 employees and a plan to expand, he says.

“It’s been a wild ride. It’s been incredible really, to see the growth and be a part of it.”
