Widmer Brothers brings home the gold (and silver and bronze)

Widmer Brothers Brewing brought home five medals from the 16th annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition, held Nov. 2 in Providence, R.I.

The Portland-based brewer, part of Craft Brew Alliance Inc. (Nasdaq: Brew), won gold medals for its Milk Stout, Barrel Aged Brrrbon 12 and SXNW brews. Its Hefeweizen won a silver and Old Embalmer 12 won bronze.

The competition featured 470 beers and ciders judged by 83 industry professionals and beer journalists. Awards were given in 44 categories.

Milk Stout won in the “stout” category; Barrel Aged Brrrbon 12 won in the “strong beer — other” category; SXNW won in the “fruit & spice ale” category; Hefeweizen won in the “American wheat beer category” and Old Embalmer 12 won in the “strong ale — mixed styles” category.
