How to get FEMA assistance
Residents of Columbia, Tillamook and Clatsop counties may be eligible for assistance under FEMA's Individual Assistance program. The Individual Assistance program can help eligible applicants with temporary housing assistance, uninsured personal property and medical, dental, and funeral expenses caused by the disaster, and other serious unmet needs.
Those who suffered damage from the severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides are encouraged to register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech-impaired and online at www.fema.gov.
The toll-free numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) Monday through Sunday.
Additional counties may be added as damage assessments are completed.
In addition, effective Monday, the two counties affected by this disaster (Tillamook and Columbia) will be able to apply for emergency Food Stamp Disaster Assistance Program.
If you live or work in one of the affected counties and currently receive food stamps, you may be eligible to receive a supplement to your December food stamps.
If you live or work in one of the affected counties and do not currently receive food stamps, you can apply for the Disaster Food Stamp Program. Only individuals who lived or worked in one of the affected areas and experienced damage to their property resulting in disaster-related expenses or have a loss of job or income will receive Disaster Food Stamp Program benefits.
Residents can apply for benefits in the Department of Human Services office nearest them.
Additionally, a temporary satellite office is operating out of the City Hall at 1001 Bridge St., Vernonia, Ore.
For information on eligibility, office locations and how to apply, call Oregon SafeNet toll-free at 1-800-SAFENET (1-800-723-3638).
