VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Vancouver School Board approved a new budget Thursday that will see fewer teachers and larger class sizes next year.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved a $213 million budget for the next year, which is a slight increase in spending from last year.
Next year, 47 teachers will lose their jobs and those remaining will not get cost-of-living raises. Teacher aides will also have their work hours cut.
However, the board said it was able to preserve arts, elective and physical education programs.
