PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police officials have confirmed an officer is being investigated for possible inappropriate videotaping of high school girls while he was assigned to Madison High School.

The DVD reportedly shows video of students at a dance and after a basketball game, with particular attention paid to the chest area and other body parts of fully clothed female students.

While not technically illegal, Portland police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schmautz said that type of behavior by an officer is "completely inconsistent with our policies."

Officials could not comment on the case specifically since it regards a current internal investigation.

The officer accused of making the videos was recommended for termination from the bureau, but police say he resigned first.

Students at Madison expressed shock at the story, calling the behavior "childish" and wondering why the officer didn't just go to an adult-oriented club.

A state police policy panel has unanimously voted to revoke the officer's certification. Portland Public Schools officials say they support that decision and are sending a letter to parents about the incident.

The video apparently came to light when a Portland police sergeant asked the officer if he could borrow a "Girls Gone Wild" video they were discussing.

The officer then mistakenly gave him the video he shot at the school, setting off the investigation.
