School superintendent and his wife, a teacher, accused of child abuse

ASTORIA, Ore. - The superintendent of Jewell schools and his wife, who is a teacher, have been formally charged in Astoria with criminally mistreating their adopted daughter.

Jewell is located in northwest Oregon near the town of Vernonia.

John and Laura Seeley are accused of withholding food and medical attention as well as physically injuring the 14-year-old girl.

John Seeley is the principal and superintendent and his wife Laura teaches kindergarten.

The Oregon Attorney General's office has also opened a separate investigation into whether John Seeley misused thousands of dollars in discretionary money at the district.
