Paul Allen's new book paints unflattering picture of Bill Gates
SEATTLE -- Paul Allen is out with a new book that could create a rift with Microsoft co-founder, and long-time friend Bill Gates.
Allen's memoir "Idea Man: A Memoir by the Co-founder of Microsoft" is due out April 17.
Excerpts are showing up in Vanity Fair, painting an unflattering picture of Gates.
Allen writes that Gates schemed to steal away Microsoft shares, when Allen was diagnosed with Hodgkin's. Allen also portrays himself as the creator of many of Microsoft's most important ideas, and suggests he did not get credit due.
In a written statement to the Wall Street Journal, Gates says he has a different view and still values Allen's friendship and contributions.
