Barbara Walters hospitalized with chickenpox

NEW YORK (AP) - Barbara Walters would probably like to hit the reset button on 2013.
She's got the chickenpox and remains hospitalized more than a week after going in after falling and hitting her head at a pre-inaugural party in Washington on Jan. 19. A fellow host on the "The View," Whoopi Goldberg, said Monday that Walters has been transferred to a New York hospital and hopes to go home soon.
"She's been told to rest. She's not allowed any visitors," Goldberg said. "And we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching!"
The 83-year-old news veteran, who underwent heart surgery in May 2010, apparently avoided a disease that hits most people when they are children. It can be serious in older people because of the possibility of complications like pneumonia.
Even after concern about her fall had subsided, Walters had been kept hospitalized last week because of a lingering fever, and doctors found the unexpected cause.
"We love you, we miss you," Goldberg said on "The View," in a message to the show's inventor. "We just don't want to hug you."

Yikes! That's an awful disease to get when you're an adult! Bleh!
Men apparently suffer worse than women, though.
Â
Shingles (a later result of Chicken Pox) is no fun, either.
Â
If you do get Chicken Pox, make sure you stick to acetaminophen for
reducing the fever. DON'T take aspirin! Aspirin in this circumstance can
lead to a potentially fatal brain and liver disease called Reyes Syndrome.
Â
I just told my husband this and he said, "She is like a million years old. That is probably her problem, she was born before chickenpox." We both laughed, but know that she must feel awful and hope she recovers quickly. I have heard the older you are the worst it is.Â
I was pretty sure she didnt have a childhood. If she were a tree what kind of a tree............
What are the Vegas odds that she does not make it through the year?
I got the chicken pox when I was 28 years old and it was miserable! It's not just the UGLY factor, but it hurts - big time! You are gross, ugly, uncomfortable, headachy, and oozy.  It's awful!   I hope she recovers quickly because it sucks.Â
@Justanother1 I know what you mean, I got it when I was either 27 or 28, and yes you are miserable, my mom told me that I had had it when I was a baby but only had maybe a dozen spots on me, my doctor told me that until you have a full blown case you can get it again.Â
@BarbWire  @Justanother1 I apparently only had a light dusting as a baby too but have been exposed since with no problems.
@whirledworld  @BarbWire  @Justanother1 You are lucky! I wouldn't wish any adult get chicken pox, not fun at all.Â
