Heroin charge against Bon Jovi's daughter dropped

CLINTON, N.Y. (AP) — Drug charges against Jon Bon Jovi's 19-year-old daughter have been dropped, a central New York prosecutor said Thursday.
Stephanie Bongiovi was found unresponsive by medics after she apparently overdosed on heroin in a Hamilton College dorm early Wednesday. Town of Kirkland police charged Bongiovi, of Red Bank, N.J., and fellow student Ian Grant, also of Red Bank, with possession of a small amount of heroin and marijuana.
Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara said he was dismissing the charges against both students. Under state law, someone having a drug overdose or seeking help for an overdose victim can't be prosecuted for having a small amount of heroin or any amount of marijuana.
The so-called Good Samaritan 911 law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in July 2011 was designed to reduce overdose deaths by encouraging people to call 911 without fear of being arrested for drug possession. Similar laws have been passed in several other states.
Bon Jovi, 50, is scheduled to perform at a concert to benefit Hamilton's scholarships and arts programs in Times Square on Dec. 5. He has not commented on his daughter's overdose.
He has four children, Stephanie and three sons.

Natural selection will eventually have its way despite humanity's attempts at interference.
Some things are just meant to be.
jon stop giving her drugs
She will be worm food if she doesn't get help. There are old heroin addicts and bold heroin addicts. There are no old bold addicts. The more they OD the higher the chance of them dying.
That law is so silly. So, if you put yourself in harms way by breaking a law, they won't charge you for it because you put yourself in harms way?I can understand protecting a "good samaritan", but it is pretty obvious who the heroin belonged to in this case and it was the person using it.
@Portlander29 The point is to not let you die. Granted, some feel that all ''druggies'' should die. I absolutely guarantee you the people that love this girl don't share that sentiment. Many won't seek help for themselves or others out of fear of incrimination.
@Lips @Portlander29 Yeah that choice between death and a few days or weeks in jail is a real tough one.
Â
And you don't have to tell me about families of OD'ers. My father died of one when I was 19. He did it to himself. I dont' feel sorry for him and never asked for anyone to feel sorry for me.
@Portlander29  @Lips  @Portlander29 I still feel sorry for you and you can't stop me. =P

People obviously aren't thinking straight when they're on drugs. Sorry for your fathers loss, if not your own.
Andrew Cuomo, sir -  what's up? The person in the most peril. The drugged out heroin user - who needs court mandated jail time and court mandated rehab - if he or she survives their deliberate heroin overdose - gets to party on? Get right on out there and inject some more - right there. You betcha. Cuomo has no problem with them succeeding a second time around - at killing themselves.Â
Â
Talk about a progress state for you. New York State - where pampered overdosing train wreck celebrities and their grown children - get cut break after break after break. After all - it's only heroin, right Cuomo? Right...
@englishdaisy
I don't know which is worse, because an overdose is a time to be forced into rehab if the person survives the overdose. But the 911 call causing police to come is another issue.
Had an old friend OD in May and he was waaaaay old enough to know better (50s) but had only recently gotten into this drug which still shocks me at his age. (his youth was wild but not as a guy in his 50s) And now he is dead. : ( I don't know if anyone was there who could have called 911 but I don't think he was alone when this happened. Lots of cover-up and not-talking went on around/at his memorial service. Huge loss to the music community in Portland though. Heroin sux big time and people are vulnerable already for some other reasons when they get to that choice to try it, and then cross over the edge and do it.
@whirledworld what makes it easy to get hooked on heroin is the pharmaceutical industry pushing pain killers. Once you are hooked on pills the jump to heroin becomes very easy. They are they same drug and heroin is cheaper than black market pain killer pills. Heroin use is an epidemic these days, and we can blame it all on pain killers. Its easy for kids to get into mom and dad's medicine cabinet looking for a way to get high. It only takes once to get hooked. I have seen so many kids get hooked on that crap its crazy. sorry for the loss of your friend,
@englishdaisy Well, I look at it this way.  This lady is an adult, and if she wants to kill herself...that's her decision.  I feel for her though because opiate addiction is a long lonely path for one to do down, and I help that she gets help.
She's really hot too, well you guys know how it is: Poor people who aren't famous go to jail, not these people
Don't you mean that if she wasn't the daughter of someone famous you would have never heard about this happening and since you never hear about the nobodys in cases like this, you are free to draw your conclusion...She is getting special treatment.
Â
It's really BS, because you are drawing a conclusion based on information you have ZERO idea about.
@archon312 is that a giant 'L' in the middle of your forehead??!!
@archon312 You're right, the DAUGHTER of someone famous is certainly above going to jail. I'm sure the fact that law that they passed preventing someone from being charged for possession in the case of an overdose was just foresight to make sure she wouldn't be prosecuted...
Â
Seriously, did you actually read the article?
@Peregrine  @archon312 No, he just drooled at the picture.
