GMA weathercaster Sam Champion is engaged
NEW YORK (AP) - "Good Morning America" weather anchor Sam Champion is tying the knot.
ABC News says Champion and his boyfriend, Rubem Robierb, are engaged to be married later this year. Champion tweeted on Friday he's "never been happier" to share a bit of personal news.
ABC says Champion and Robierb met through mutual friends in Miami, where Robierb lives.
Champion joined ABC News in 2006. Before that, he spent 18 years at New York City television station WABC.
Robierb was born in Brazil. He's a fine-arts photographer who shows his work in Miami, Atlanta, New York and Santa Monica, Calif.

Why is this news? There are lots of heterosexual couples getting engaged I don't see them in the news.

@Arther Daily Hopefully when marriage becomes federally recognized by the SCOTUS and the Religous right can no longer influence the private lives of gays and lesbians,gay marriage will be a non-issue and the novelty will finally wear off.

 @sortbait Oh, and my marriage is apparently a sham, too. Its my understanding marriage is a contractual obligation that also is supposed to result in procreation. I biologically can't have kids so I'm committing fraud according to at least some churches out there. I'd much rather give up my "sham" marriage to allow to people (or more - poly lifestyles aren't ruled out here) who really love and care for each other to marry.

Congrats to a good looking couple on their engagement. For the naysayers out there, how long have there been engagement stories about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or the multiple guys that Jennifer Aniston has been linked with? Whether or not people agree with it, if you've posted a comment, clearly you were interested enough in the news story to click the link, and read the story.
If they were a heterosexual couple, the network would have let them actually touch each other in the photo.  Very happy for them, and all the couples in NY that can enjoy their civil right to a legally recognized marriage.
