'Girls' star Lena Dunham gets 7-figure book deal

NEW YORK (AP) - "Girls" creator Lena Dunham has a seven-figure book deal with Random House.
The 26-year-old Dunham, who received Emmy nominations as producer, director, writer and actor for the HBO comedy, has an agreement for the essay collection "Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned."
"In the tradition of Helen Gurley Brown, David Sedaris and Nora Ephron, Dunham's book will offer frank and funny advice on everything from sex to eating to traveling to work," Random House said in an announcement Monday. Dunham said in statement that she was eager "to produce the most thoughtful and personal book" she could.
Random House spokeswoman Theresa Zoro said that no publication date has been set.
Numerous publishers bid for the book. Random House declined to offer financial details, but several competitors have said bidding exceeded $3.5 million.

I enjoy her show (Girls). She is an excellent writer and decent actress. My only criticism is really a question...why does she feel the need to show her breasts so often? Don't get me wrong, I love female breasts as much as the next guy. But, she seems to have an odd desire to show hers off. And, I've seen much better.
The show is good.
Never heard of her.
@sortbait I never heard of you either. Doesn't mean you're not worthy of something, right?
Ho Hum - another adult "female angst" book. From people who cannot get over themselves or deal with life in a normal way.
@wvboy She doesn't come from an angst perspective at all - she has a wonderfully irreverent sense of humor with a unique take on the world, especially for being so young. She was able to net herself a multimillion dollar book deal precisely because she can offer something more interesting than "normal!"
You cannot deny that she is an intelligent person with a perspective that the younger generation appreciates. She also is not afraid to let it all hang out - warts and all. Those aspects of her show I cannot say are wrong in my view. I cannot shake the feeling that I am back in middle school when watching the show - with all the angst that went with the times.
