Oxygen pulls plug on development of 'Babies' Mamas'

NEW YORK (AP) - Oxygen Media has pulled the plug on "All My Babies' Mamas," a reality special the network was developing about a musician who has fathered 11 children with 10 different mothers.
The network offered no reason for curtailing the project. In a statement issued Tuesday, Oxygen said that, "as part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special."
The one-hour program would have featured Atlanta rap artist Shawty Lo, his children and their mothers. It was expected to air later this year on Oxygen, an NBCUniversal cable network owned by Comcast.
"All My Babies' Mamas" got a hostile public reception after Oxygen announced it last month. At least one petition calling for Oxygen to shut it down has collected more than 37,000 signatures.
The Parents Television Council called the program's concept "grotesquely irresponsible and exploitive" and pledged to contact advertisers of the show if it reached the air.
Previously, Oxygen denied charges that the show was meant to be "a stereotypical representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section of society," but rather would reveal "the complicated lives of one man, his children's mamas and their army of children."
On Tuesday, Oxygen said it will "continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation."

Shawty Lo has more guns then all of you. That makes him a better American.
@GNTLwarrior I don't know about that. I have a lot of guns also.
"The network offered no reason for curtailing the project." Maybe because it would be a stupid show?
No doubt about it, the air is bad at Oxygen. Pretty Shawty sh-t, Comcast, you suck!!!
No big loss...I'm sure we'll be seeing some member of his tribe on American Idol or America's Got Talent, maybe even COPS or the evening news.

That this was even a concept being considered is frightening and speaks volumes about the entertainment industry.
Glad they are not going to air it. That is just what we need as a society, a "reality" show that depicts bad behavior and values.
@Om Kitty You apparently don't watch reality shows on Oxygen and E! That's all they depict.
How would this show be any different from "Honey Boo Boo" or the Duggar show "18 and counting", or "John & Kate plus 8" or even the "Little People..."?! Seems to me that this could have given insight into another side of the modern day "family".
for one thing the other shows you mention reflect by and large whole familes with a mother and father present. Even if they were very disfuctional (or not). This show does not seem to have that. Showing black people as idiots is one thing on sitcoms and other "reality" shows- but to be poltically incorrect by depicting multiple black families with no father in the household - is a no-no. Cannot perpetuate that fact. And to add insult to injury by saying all of them have the same father - lord no. Eventhough all races have instances of this ocurring. So in short - the network pulled its head out of its ass - and stopped listening to whomever the idiot was that sold them on the concept - and decided to drop it.
Although I agree with what you are saying. I would rather not have any of those shows.
