Lukus Glenn trial jurors grappled over details, notes reveal

PORTLAND, Ore. – New documents obtained by KATU News reveal the mindset of the jurors as they sided with a local mother in the shooting death of her son.
Lukus Glenn was killed six years ago by Washington County Sheriff's deputies. A jury Thursday found those deputies in the wrong and awarded Lukus' mother, Hope, $2.5 million as part of its verdict.
The documents, handwritten notes from the seven-member jury, reveal the types of questions the jurors grappled with during the trial.
To better understand the testimony, jurors asked: "Was there a safety concern for the people in the house when firing live rounds towards the house? ... Is the live response tactical training done when an officer has been sleep deprived? ... Where is the location that the knife was recovered from at the scene?"
Lukus was armed with this knife during the confrontation.
Another juror wondered of a witness: "With all the safeguards that you described, why do you think so many of the details of this event were incorrectly presented in the administrative investigative report? In your experience are these type of inaccuricies (sic) commonplace?"
They are detailed inquiries from the four men and three women who set aside a portion of their summer to learn about the end of Lukus Glenn's life and decided it should not have happened that way.
The jury's decision was unanimous. The Washington County sheriff said Thursday he hadn't decided yet whether his department will appeal.
The parent's should get a 100 million. If 6-8 cops can't control a teenage boy with a pocket knife without shooting him, what good are they. Is this the response you people want whenever police arrive? To start shooting anybody they feel is a threat unarmed or not. If so you'd better be prepared for the consequences when the police are called for assistance because you might end up as collateral damage when the lead starts to fly.
I still would like to know where this underage kid consumed so much alcohol that he was a drunk as he was, that is the person that needs to sued for the money......not only should that person have to pay for the lawsuit but they should also go to prison for his death.Â
Â
I dont think this was fair. The mother was scared enough to call the police, and Luke was armed with a knife. He was attempting to go back into the house where his family were. The police warned him and tried non lethal methods. Police dont shoot to wound, they shoot to stop the suspect. If Luke was on PCP, for example, and he was wounded by a bullet, he could have kept on advancing into the home. The police do their job, and do it well, only to get sued.
Â
If I was a juror, my question would be this.... He was drunk during the whole incident. Where did he get the alcohol? He was home, so did he have access to alcohol from his home? If so, why is there alcohol accessible to someone with known mental instabilities?  Â
I hope the county appeals
Here's the quick and dirty:
In September of 2006, Glenn's mother, Hope Glenn, called 9-1-1 fearing for her son's safety and for those around him. "He just keeps threatening to kill everybody,"Â she was heard saying during the call.
Glenn, 18, was armed with a knife. He was hit with six beanbag rounds before Washington County Sheriffâs Deputies fired their service weapons, hitting him eight times, when they said he refused to surrender.
Â
So... apparently the mom was sacred of the kid, yet when the Deputies also feel threatened (and give the "hella" time and reason to disarm himself) and shoot him.... they're wrong?
Â
It's not like the guy was unarmed, or quietly minding his own business.
Â
No soup for you! (And no sympathy either.)
Â
@TundraTuniq  Exactly, seems to me anyone waving around a knife REFUSING to put it down when the LEO's instruct him numerous times to do so deserves all the hot lead coming their way. Â
IMHO, its clearly a suicide by police.......
I sure hope the WCS appeals this decision as it sets a horrible presidence that any lunatic with a deadly weapon threatning the LEO's can still cash in on the legal system lottery.
