PORTLAND, Ore. – A 78-year-old woman was killed and her 80-year-old husband was injured Friday after they were both hit by a vehicle in Southeast Portland Friday morning as they were crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk, police said.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said the crash happened at S.E. 84th Avenue and Division Street around 11:30 a.m.
The woman died at the scene. She was identified on Saturday as Yan Huang.
Her husband, Zhi Hu, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, Jarred Holt, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Simpson said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Simpson said the 38-year-old Holt was turning left from 84th onto Division when he hit the couple.
Police closed Division Street for their investigation but reopened it several hours later.
Simpson said this was the second traffic-related death of 2014.
