LAKE TAHOE - Karen Gaffney has been an inspiration to those with Down Syndrome and now she has done it again, becoming the first person with the genetic disorder to swim across Lake Tahoe.

The 29-year-old from Portland swam nine miles from the Nevada shore to the California shore.

In 2001, Gaffney became the first person with Down Syndrome to complete a relay swim across the English Channel.

Tuesday's swim was to raise money for the National Down Syndrome Congress.  Click here if you would like to make a donation.
