Downtown Portland Macy's to reopen next month

PORTLAND, Ore. - The downtown Macy's store, which has been closed for remodeling since December, will reopen late next month, officials announced this week.

The grand re-opening celebration begins with an in-store fundraiser on Oct. 24 to benefit five Portland-area arts organizations.

A public ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 26, with speakers including Mayor Tom Potter and gift bag giveaways that include Macy's gift cards valued between $5 and $500.

The remodel of the 15-story building in Meier & Frank Square included installing better lighting, carpeting and signage, porcelain floor tiles and large fitting room lounges with couches and flat-screen TVs, store officials said.
