Investigators seek witnesses who saw Horman’s white truck

PORTLAND, Ore. – Investigators in the Kyron Horman case want to talk to anyone who saw the white truck Terri Horman drove the day Kyron disappeared and released specific times and places during a Wednesday news conference they are interested in knowing about.
Investigators are honing in on the hour and a half Friday morning, June 4, during which Horman and her friend DeDe Spicher can’t prove what they were doing.
During the news conference, they said they want to know if someone saw the Ford F250 pickup parked directly in front of Skyline School - on Skyline Road - and also a second location up the gravel road in front of the school about 60 feet from Skyline Road between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.
They said they want to identify anyone who was in or around the truck during that half hour.
“A witness or witnesses have come forward and provided us with information about a person or persons associated with that pickup truck. … By associated we mean in or in immediate proximity to that truck,” said Rod Underhill, Multnomah County’s chief deputy district attorney.
Additionally, they’re hoping to talk with people who saw the truck at the Fred Meyer in Hillsboro on Imbrie Drive around 9 a.m. and at the Fred Meyer on Walker Road in Beaverton at 10 a.m.
After that they said there are specific areas they believe the truck may have traveled.
“We’re looking for witnesses who observed the white truck we’ve been talking about on or near Springville Road, Skyline Road, between Springville and Newberry to include Germantown and Old Germantown,” said Underhill.
What investigators did not go into was any additional information about Spicher and where they see her fitting into the case or if they think she may have been the person the “witness or witnesses” may have seen associated with the truck.
There is another hour or so after 11:30 that Spicher’s whereabouts are unclear to investigators. She was supposed to have been working on a farm on Old Germantown Road that morning.
As previously reported, at 11:39 Terri Horman checked in at the 24-Hour Fitness, worked out for an hour and then headed for home.
During the news conference, investigators also said they are hoping to hear from anyone who parked on the south side of the Skyline School parking lot – on the side closest to the road - on June 4.
They said they want those people to call the tip line and leave their contact information and make, model, year and color of the car they were driving that morning.
Investigators have not named any persons of interests or suspects in the case and no arrests have been made.
It’s been 69 days since Kyron disappeared and the question was asked at the news conference why investigators have waited so long to come forward with their plea for information.
Former Portland police detective C.W. Jensen said so much time has gone by it’s going to be difficult to find witnesses who saw something out of the ordinary the day Kyron disappeared and have yet to come forward.
He also said he thinks it doesn’t make sense investigators wouldn’t talk about who may have been driving the white truck when it’s already been talked about so much that Terri Horman was driving it.
Investigators say it’s part of their effort not to taint witnesses’ memories.
“They won’t say the following: We’re doing really well. We’ve made great progress. We know Terri Horman is involved and we know DeDe Spicher is involved with Terri Horman and this truck is very significant (and) if you saw it on June 4 that morning in these hours at this location let us know,” Jensen said.
Investigators have already circulated a flier showing the white truck, Terri Horman and DeDe Spicher. And they have asked neighbors if they saw the three on the day Kyron disappeared.
Up until the flier and Wednesday’s news conference, very little of the information about the investigation’s progress has come from investigators on the record.
Much of what is known about Horman, Spicher and the white truck came from Kyron’s parents and well-placed sources.
“I am confident that this investigation is full-speed ahead,” Jensen said. “It’s not stalling or anything of that nature. These people are working a lot. I know.”
Today's previous story
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Wednesday morning revealing questions they still have into the case of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman.
The press conference also brought up some good news for those holding out hope for Kyron's return.
"We don't have any evidence that Kyron is not alive," said Capt. Gates, a spokesperson for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office at Wednesday's event. "We do not have any evidence that suggests that."
To find Kyron, the sheriff's office spokesman said they are looking for any witnesses who saw Kyron's family truck on or near Northwest Springville Road, Skyline Road, Germantown Road, Northwest Old Germantown Road and Newberry Road on the morning of Friday, June 4.
They also are looking for anyone who may have seen Kyron's stepmother, Terri Horman, or the white truck she borrowed from her now-estranged husband Kaine Horman, at a Hillsboro or Beaverton Fred Meyer store that day.
A spokesperson said at least one witness has come forward providing the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office with information involving the truck at those locations, and the sheriff's office is looking for more witnesses.
The sheriff's office has a major crime team working on Kyron's case full-time throughout the week, said Capt. Jason Gates of the Multnomah County sheriff's department. He did not give a time line for when he thinks the investigation could be complete.
We have posted details of the press conference, in real time, on KATU.com's Twitter page.
