Restaurant Report Card: Strip clubs get inspections too
PORTLAND, Ore. – Strip clubs get health inspections too, if they serve food. This week's Restaurant Report Card takes us to a well-known club in Portland to see how it rates with the health department.
This place has gotten a low score in the past, and the latest big inspection shows – once again – a list of violations.
The Acropolis has a reputation for its steak. Customers say it is cheap ... and tasty.
However, the latest score for this strip club is 75 out of a possible 100, making its score just 6 points shy of failing given that below 70 is a failing score. The inspector found raw steak in the temperature danger zone and dried blood on the scale – among other problems.
Workers tell us they have fixed the problems. However, we won't know for sure until the next health inspection, which should be this winter.
More scores of 75 this week went to Saburo's Sushi House on Southeast Bybee Boulevard in Portland, Masu Sushi on Southwest 13th Avenue, Chin's Kitchen on Northeast Broadway and Sushi Mazi on Division Street. Another Division Street eatery received the same 75-point score: Gary's Bakery & Bistro.
However, Green Papaya on Southwest Pomona Street off of Capitol Highway in Southwest Portland comes back on a post-failing inspection. It received a perfect 100 points after a score of 60 – a solid "F" – in June 25. That 60 score came after the inspector found rancid coffee and cream in the fridge, and the cook grabbing raw chicken then continuing to work without washing his hands.
More perfect scores come from around the city. In Northeast Portland, Club 21 on Glisan Street posted a perfect 100. The Chuck E. Cheese's pizzeria and family fun center on Southeast Powell Boulevard received two slices of perfection: perfect 100 scores two times in a row.
Two perfect scores also went to Ringler's Annex Cellar Bar on Southwest Stark Street, the Skyline Tavern on Skyline Boulevard in Northwest Portland and Little Caesars Pizza in Newberg.
Three perfect scores went to Tang's Wok on Southeast McGillivray Boulevard in Vancouver. Washington state uses a different scoring system, where a zero is a perfect score. In Longview, La Hacienda Real Grill received five zero scores in a row.
As an aside, a lot of people have been asking us about food cart scores. The carts get inspections just like restaurants do. However, carts do not get a health-inspection score. That's why you don't see their scores here.
