Whidbey Island authorities closer to finding match for mystery foot

COUPEVILLE, Wash. (AP) – The Island County sheriff's office reports receiving information from other jurisdictions about missing people who could be connected with the foot found most recently on Whidbey Island.

Island County Detective Ed Wallace said Royal Canadian mounted police are sharing information about at least seven feet that have washed up in the past three years on British Columbia shores. At least one other foot was found in Washington state.

The Kitsap Sun reports the Kitsap County sheriff's office has sent Island County information about two women that could be connected to the most-recent foot. We're told that limbs often separate from a body during water decomposition, and feet tend to float to the top due to a shoe's often-buoyant sole.

One of the possible matches could be a woman reported missing from Silverdale. Another possible match is a Bremerton woman, whose decomposed remains were found this past month in Illahee State Park.
