NEAR MOUNT ADAMS, Wash. - Search crews located a missing elderly mushroom picker early Thursday morning, almost two days after she disappeared.
Deputies from the Skamania Country Sheriff's Office said Sonn Souv, 93, was located just after midnight Wednesday by family members who were assisting in the search.
Souv was found covered in brush and bark to keep warm and is reportedly in good condition despite low temperatures at night and a lack of food and water. She was found about a quarter mile from the area she was first reported missing. Deputies described the area as heavily wooded with heavy underbrush.
Souv disappeared Tuesday afternoon while family members were picking mushrooms in the Salt Creek area near Mount Adams.
“I truly believe the extraordinary efforts of everyone involved with this search provided the opportunity to have this remarkable conclusion”, said Undersheriff Dave Cox. “We have absolutely remarkable Search and Rescue resources that continue to serve the citizens of Washington State: governmental, military, and volunteers, and we are very thankful for their devoted service and expertise. The governmental agencies and the employers that allow their employees to participate as these vital resources are to be commended.”
Souv was taken by ambulance to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, Wash., as a precaution. She suffered some minor injuries, but none appeared to be life-threatening.
