SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Members of the Salem First Church of the Nazarene are making sure that 310 Oregon National Guardsmen deployed in Iraq during the holiday will receive a special Oregon-made gift for Christmas.
The soldiers are from the 1249 ENG BN Oregon National Guardsman.
They will each receive a stocking filled with personal items and treats made of Pendleton Woolen Mills fabric.
Laura Driscoll, a resident of Salem, says they wanted to do something that would remind them of home during the holidays.
She says since the soldiers are making such a huge sacrifice, they want them to know they're not forgotten.
Pendleton Woolen Mills is an Oregon tradition for five generations since 1863 and the president says they are pleased to participate.
Media interested in attending the sewing session should contact April Davis at the Oregon National Guard , Public Affairs Office, (503) 584-3917, no later than Friday, October 26, 4:30 p.m.
