SHERWOOD, Ore. - A Hillsboro police officer ended up in the hospital Thursday afternoon after a car swerved to the side of the road where the officer was standing.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 99W in Sherwood where officers were pulling people over who had failed to change lanes and give emergency vehicles room on the side of the road.

According to police, a Mercedes had been speeding and swerving down Highway 99W and veered out of the traffic lane at just the wrong moment, right into the path of an officer who was standing next to his motorcycle.

The officer, identified as Clint Chrz, had to be cut out of his uniform and he was flown by LifeFlight to a local hospital.  He has pain in his side and back, but is expected to be fine.

As for the driver of the Mercedes, he is being interviewed and could face some serious charges.
