Train hits truck hauling jet fuel

HERMISTON, Ore. - A big rig hauling 10,000 gallons of jet fuel in two cargo tankers collided with a train Monday, Oregon State Police said.
No one was seriously hurt.
The truck crashed first, overturning off Highway 730 south of the Oregon/Washington border.
The rig and trailers came to rest on their sides, on the railroad tracks, at the bottom of an embankment.
One train in the area stopped.
Another couldn't.
"The major damage occurred to the truck," state police report.
The 72-year-old trucker from Texas got an ambulance ride for possible injuries but got clear of the truck before the train hit.
Engineer should have swerved to miss the truck.
"two cargo tankers collided with a train Monday" What is wrong with this statement? KATU editor, minimum educational requirement. Must have completed first grade. How can it collide when it was laying down on the tracks not moving?
Judging by the pictures of the top of the tank, it appears tragedy was narrowly averted. The top of the tank was grazed by the train. If the trailer would have been closer to the track the front of the train would have ripped that tank open like a sardine can and there would have been a highly flammable fuel spilling in the ditch. Luck, pure luck saved this from a disaster. I'm just glad that combo landed where it did and not closer to the tracks.
The truck, on the other hand, didn't get so lucky.Â
Guess, since this 72 year old is still working, the economy hasn't improved much where he lives, at least not to the extent the liars in the White House tell us it is.
@Shadow or perhaps he enjoys his job. You know, there are people like that. They simply can't stand retirement and sitting around not doing anything all day. And the fact that he's working would suggest that the economy is improving, especially since he's a trucker moving cargo.
Where's the kaboom? Â There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom.
@negativerep Nice post...Marvin!
No mention if there was a spill..with 10,000 gallons and that much damage and it's right alongside the Columbia? The other article gave a lot more information...didn't say if the driver fell asleep or ??? Â
@flyingtime No matter, the info would probably be wrong anyway. I was involved in an accident a few years ago, and the reports on the amount of spilled material and what it was was reported differently 3 times... And NONE of them were anywhere near correct.
Amazing no one was kilted
How about linking this with the other story - so there aren't two going on at the same time? (shaking head...)
