PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon's soon-to-be governor grew up in Eugene and attended University of Oregon for a year.

However the governor-elect, John Kitzhaber, likely won’t be able to attend the Duck's first national Bowl Championship Series game on Jan. 10.

That's because it’s the same day as his state Inauguration.

According to The Register-Guard newspaper in Eugene, "Gov.-elect John Kitzhaber faces a serious scheduling conflict that’s likely to keep him home bound when the Oregon Ducks play for the national college football title."

In Kitzhaber's economic-reform press conference in Gladstone Monday, the already-two-term governor addressed the scheduling conflict :

“I’ve tried to change the date of the game but they tell me that won’t happen,” Kitzhaber said. “So unfortunately, I will be watching the game from Salem. But the outcome is going to be the same. The Ducks are going to win.”

The "BCS" game is in Glendale, Ariz. Under Oregon law, a governor's inauguration must take place on the same day the Legislature convenes. The Legislature is set to convene this year on Jan. 10, 2011.
