Searchers find possible clue to missing UO professor
MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Ore. (AP) - Volunteers found part of a guide book in the Cascade Range Foothills, where an Oregon math professor has been missing since November fourth.
So searchers went back to work but have found no clues to the whereabouts of University of Oregon professor Daming Xu. (Da Ming Shoo)
The guide book fragment was found in a drainage about seven miles from the site where a couple saw Xu on the Sunday he went on a day hike.
He was east of Eugene, lightly clad and without food or water. Sheriff Russel Berger says seven members of the Eugene Mountain Rescue organization went to the remote drainage yesterday, but turned up no more information. He said the searchers continued work today. On Monday, in the face of bad weather and the diminishing prospect of finding Xu alive, searchers called off their efforts.
