PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An OMSI employee found a body in the Willamette River near the popular facility.
The employee found the substantially decomposed body Thursday morning. Officials have recovered it and turned it over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office.
It is believed the body has been in the river for several months. Officials said it is likely that increased water levels and stronger currents helped bring the body to the surface and it became snagged near the USS Blueback submarine visiting area at OMSI.
