One-hit wonders: McMinnville couple are viral video stars

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- There are thousands of online videos that are fake.

You can be sure Bruce and Esther Huffman are not that savvy. The McMinnville couple is on the receiving end of some internet fame -- simply for being them.

The two wanted to record a video of them on their brand new laptop, but they weren't sure how to work it. The two began trying to figure out how to make it work and record them. Little did they know it was recording them the whole time.

The couple, married for 7 1/2 years, lives in the Hillside Retirement Community. Three weeks ago, the couple upgraded to a new laptop.

"This is my new computer," Esther said. "I think it's so pretty this is one reason I got it, because it's aqua."

The Huffmans decided to try out their new camera -- something their granddaughter tried to teach them.

"I had no idea how to do it I didn't remember what she said so the whole time I was irritated chewing gum so hard and I looked like ... " Esther said. "I don't know what."

"The wicked witch of the west," Bruce playfully said.

For almost three hilarious minutes, the candid couple made monkey faces, sang, burped and patiently waited for something to actually record.

"I'm bored," Bruce said. "I don't know how to work the computer. She's the computer person."

The couple's granddaughter called it "Web Cam 101 for Seniors" and put it on YouTube.

Now the two are viral video stars.  Their video was picked up by media outlets all over the country.

"When I was 8 years old, my uncle paid me five cents if I'd make a monkey face and I've been working on it all these years," Bruce said. "I never knew it'd make me famous. He's up in heaven and he'd be amazed at what's going on right here right now."

And just in case anyone thinks the video was all an act, the couple assures everyone that's just not the case.

"If we'd have staged it, I would have been all, "uhhhhhh ... ," but since we knew nothing was happening, we were just being ourselves just having fun laughs," Bruce said.

The Huffmans are surprised so many people are checking out their video, but they're glad people are enjoying it. As for making another video in the near future, they're not so sure about that.
