Two dead in apparent murder-suicide following standoff

PORTLAND, Ore. - Two people were found dead in a home in Troutdale following a long standoff that began when police got a call from a man saying he had shot his wife.

Police said it appeared an elderly man killed his wife and then himself in an apparent murder-suicide.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to the incident, which began just before 11 a.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Southwest Larsson Avenue.

One neighbor said she saw one cop car and then before she knew it, her neighborhood was surrounded by police activity.

The standoff ended around 3 p.m. when a SWAT team entered the home and found the bodies of the man and woman. The two have not yet been identified.

KATU News asked some of the neighbors if they knew the people who lived in the house but they said they never had much contact with them.
