PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Police say a Portland homeowner shot a suspected burglar with a gun firing rubber bullets.

The man told police he caught the suspect before 4 a.m. Friday trying to break in his back door.

After he was shot, the suspect fled. The home is located on North Seward Avenue.

Officers searched the neighborhood and found Oscar Taylor Jr., a two-time convicted burglar, at nearby St. John's Lutheran Church. He was treated by medical personnel for non-life threatening injuries from "at least" one rubber bullet impact, police said in a press release.

The homeowner is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The incident comes after a homeowner in La Center, Washington, shot and killed a man he said was a prowler on his property.

That incident remains under investigation.
