Woman who strangled hit man awarded $1M

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A jury decided Susan Kuhnhausen deserves $1 million for the emotional distress she's suffered from her husband, who hired a hit man to kill her.

Kuhnhausen strangled the would-be killer and her husband, Michael, was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison.

The jury made the award Thursday in Portland. Kuhnhausen's attorney, Susan Eggum, said her client does not expect to collect from her husband.

Eggum said Kuhnhausen lives in fear that even from behind bars her husband will hire someone to kill her and the damage award may discourage such an attempt.
