PORTLAND, Ore. - A former Portland police officer who claims she was fired for being a whistleblower has filed suit against the bureau.

Lindsay Hunt claims she witnessed a training officer act inappropriately and was told not to report the incident.

Hunt claims that when she did bring the incident to the attention of her superiors, she said she was told that she "could have all the integrity you want in six months when you are no longer on probationary status if you keep your mouth shut."

The incident Hunt refers to took place in 2007. She claims her training officer roughed up a cooperative interview subject. She also claims the officer abused his authority on other occasions.

Following her report of the incident, Hunt claims she was labeled a "snitch."

Hunt also claims that she was told she was "not man enough" for the job of police officer by her training officer.

She claims superiors told her that she started a "rebellion" in the Northeast Precinct and that she was told to fill out a resignation form when she was fired to "make things official."

Hunt claims that since she was considered a snitch, other officers would not back her up while she was on duty in the field.

The Portland Police Bureau maintains a policy of not commenting on lawsuits until they are resolved.

It is possible that the case could be settled out of court before it goes to trial. No trial date has yet been released.
