PORTLAND, Ore. - Snowflakes keep falling on our heads.

The white stuff made an appearance Thursday morning, sticking in Portland's West Hills and other areas as snowflakes fell as low as sea level and actually stuck to the ground between 500 feet and 800 feet, according to KATU Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby.

The commute on Highway 26 over the Sylvan Hill was slowed as snow accumulated on the ground.

Snow in the Gorge was also sticking at the 800 foot and higher mark. It will be a real travel problem 1,000 feet or higher there, Shelby said.

The snow showers followed the appearance a day earlier of snow on the coast. Click here to see photos sent in from readers there and elsewhere.

If you are traveling over the Coast Range or in the Cascades today, travel could also be difficult.

The snow level should rise above 1,000 feet later in the day with showers tapering off, Shelby said.

On Friday, we could get even more snow during the morning commute, she said.
