Portland-based Marine dies in Africa

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Lance Cpl. Dustin L. Canham has died in what the Department of Defense called a "non-hostile incident" in Djibouti, a country in eastern Africa.

Canham, 21, died on Sunday, the Department of Defense said. He was from Lake Stevens, Wash., and was the younger brother of former Oregon State baseball player Mitch Canham.

Canham was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve's 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. The battalion is based in Portland.

The Department of Defense said the death was under investigation. Further details were not available.
