Cross country races moved after bear sightings in Camas
CAMAS, Wash. – Several residents in Camas reported seeing a black bear within the city limits over the last 10 days, police said.
The sightings were in LaCamas Park, a 331-acre park in the southeast part of the city. They prompted Camas High School to move cross county meets that ran through park twice in the last two weeks.
Camas coach Mike Hickey said his team was warming up for a meet on Sept. 25 when they came upon a bear that was about 3 feet tall, the Columbian reported.
No one has been hurt or threatened by the bears.
A spokesperson with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said it is common for bears to migrate to lower elevations this time of year. The department told police it is working on the issue.
Cross country runners dont have enough meat on them for a bear to bother chasing them down. The bears are out searching for the Jenny Craig clinics for a bigger meal.
Its just hungry, it was a terrible year for huckleberries
Why move the races? Seems to me you could set some state records w/bears being present.Â
@OSUx2 Just remember 1 thing to remember when trying to out run a bear is. Run faster then the person beside you.
