Cutbacks at boat manufacturer result in job losses
GREEN, Ore. - A local boat manufacturer is cutting back on some production and that means some job losses.
North River Boats in Green has reduced its workers partly because of slowing recreational boat sales.
Brian Brush, the owner of North River Boats declined to speak with us on camera, but said they laid off some employees because of expected slowing of the recreational market.
One cause Brush says is because of the reduction of fishing opportunities on the Oregon coast.
He also said some employees were let go because of poor work performance.
North River Boats has decided to focus on the commercial market, which Brush says seems to be thriving.
According to the company's press release, they have received two large commercial contracts as well as numerous smaller commercial contracts.
Brush says because of that "the typical commercial vessel being bigger and taking more time to build, these gains support an increase in production output, with a reduced labor force."
