PORTLAND, Ore. - A damaged part on a MAX train brought service between Lloyd Center and the Gateway Transit Center to a sudden halt Saturday.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. when the MAX train with a damaged part became stranded near 78th Avenue.

Emergency crews cut power to the MAX system between 60th and 82nd, closed the right lane of westbound Interstate 84 and lowered ladders so stranded riders could crawl from the train to a waiting shuttle bus.

It was not clear when MAX train service would be restored. In the meantime, buses were shuttling riders between the 7th Avenue station and the Gateway Transit Center.
