ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - The assault case against four former members of the Molalla High School boys basketball team has ended with no contest pleas in a deal with prosecutors.
The four players admitted they assaulted a younger teammate during a 2006 road trip after a series of hazing incidents escalated, with at least one older teammate penetrating the boy using his finger.
They had been charged with sex abuse - which could have required them to register as sex offenders if convicted.
The two younger boys pleaded as juveniles and face seven days in juvenile detention. The two older teens pleaded as adults and face 30 days in jail - plus probation.
A fifth player is expected to join the plea deal.
Police believe three episodes of abuse took place during a December team road trip: one on a school bus in Clatsop County, and two at a Sisters-area motel, in a hot tub and a motel room. The trip included visits to both the Seaside and Sisters areas.
