Change in revenue agency's payment vendor could cause confusion

About 3,000 people who use the Oregon Department of Revenue’s electronic payment service are being urged to change their payment method because of a switch in the department’s online vendor, officials said.

The department’s contract with Official Payments, a Georgia-based firm, will expire on Jan. 3.

Officials said the new vendor will be Kentucky-based Value Payment Systems. The new system will allow people to make  debit payments from their checking or savings accounts to pay personal income taxes and tobacco taxes.

Taxpayers will receive a letter notifying them of the change and encouraging them to switch to another electronic payment service or alternate payment method.

Officials said they fear the change in E-payment vendors could cause some people to miss payments due in January.

Further, revenue officials said people who recently set up a payment plan through Official Payments are especially vulnerable because they likely wouldn’t have received written notice.

Those concerned about their payment plans or have questions should contact the agency at 503-378-4988 or 1-800-356-4222.
