Cyclist injured by driver speeding from parking lot

PORTLAND, Ore. - A bicyclist was seriously injured Saturday morning in northeast Portland.
Police say the suspect was trying to buy beer at a Safeway store near Northeast 69th Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street when the incident began about 2:30 a.m. Workers at the store refused to sell the man alcohol, at which point police say he tried to steal the beer. He reportedly ran to his car, described as an Acura, and drove out of the parking lot at high speed. As he left the lot and entered Fremont Street, police say the suspect hit a bicyclist and did not stop. Saturday afternoon, investigators from the Traffic Division Major Crash Team arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Jordon on one count each of assault in the second degree, DUII, reckless driving and felony hit and run. His car was also impounded Investigators said the cyclist, identified as Eric Davidson, 36, was severely injured and taken to a Portland hospital. His injuries were described as life-threatening. |
