OREGON CITY, Ore. - A mother and child ended up in the hospital after they were both struck by a boat that was being put into the water.

The incident happened Thursday at Clackamette Park.

According to Officer Greg Johnston with the Oregon City Police Department, a young mother and her 2-year-old child were on the dock when the child darted out behind the boat.

The mother ran after her child and both were hit by the boat. The child popped up in the river quickly but the mother was trapped under water.

A police officer and a Good Samaritan were able to get her out. She ended up with head injuries and her child had a deep cut to the leg. Both were taken to Oregon Health & Science University.
