VANCOUVER, Wash. - A man was shot early Saturday after two men tried to force their way into his Vancouver apartment, police said.

The 41-year-old victim, who was shot once in the back near his left shoulder, was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. Police did not release his name.

According to police, the man was awakened by knocks on the door of his apartment at 10904 N.E. 48th St. shortly after midnight. When he answered the door, two men wearing masks tried to force their way inside.

The victim tried in vain to keep the men out but was overpowered, police said. The resident then tried to flee to a neighboring apartment, leading one of the suspects to shoot at him twice, striking him once, police said.

The robbers then ran from the area.

Police described the suspects as wearing dark clothes and masks. One was about 6 feet tall with a stocky build.
